Front-end developer (closed)

Impact of Role

nodeQ is an exciting and enjoyable work environment for researchers and engineers alike. As a front-end engineer in a young and rapidly developing field, your creativity will be equally as valuable as your precision. You will be encouraged to embrace this creativity, as your work on UI/UX will be influential on important iterations of our flagship product for quantum network design and optimization. You will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team of software engineers and researchers to build the best possible user-experience.

 

You will be joining us at a pivotal time, where your input and expertise will be critical. Opportunities exist for the right candidate to enter at a senior position, lead and develop their own team and form an integral part of the company.

 

Location

We are based in York, a young and thriving area which hosts the UK leading institution in quantum communications. While on-site/hybrid working is ideal, remote opportunities will also be considered. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, maintain UIs, desktop apps and web apps

  • Maintain front-end codebases and create documentation that will empower internal users 

  • Work with the team to create functional prototypes in response to user feedback

  • Resolve performance and scalability issues

  • Support and maintain production applications

 

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience building and maintaining production front-end software

  • Worked in an environment with Git and code review 

  • Solid basics in HTML, CSS, JS, TypeScript

  • Experience using modern JS frameworks such as Node, React

  • Experience in desktop app development (e.g., Electron) is highly advantageous

  • Proficiency in Python and Python-based GUI development (Tkinter, PyQt)

  • At least BSc in Computer Science, or related STEM discipline, is preferred

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/milestones efficiently

SDN developer (closed)

This role is for an SDN developer who wants to leverage their skills in software engineering to contribute developing the architecture of a quantum communication network.

 

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following skills and expertise:

  • Proficiency in SDN tools (OpenFlow, Mininet, Open vSwitch, etc.)

  • Expertise in security/cryptographic aspects of classical communication networks

  • Expertise with classical network simulators

  • At least BSc Degree in Computer Science (MSc/PhD levels preferred)

  • Proven experience in creating/implementing control agents + associated tools (preferably with 2+ years of industry experience)

  • Proven experience with Git (for instance via GitHub, CodeCommit, Bitbucket)

  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Willingness to be part of an interdisciplinary team

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple milestones and projects efficiently

PQC developer (closed)

This specific role is for a software engineer to work on post-quantum cryptographic software, to be implemented in our optimized network infrastructure. The ideal candidate is expected to work in collaboration with a mix of BE developers and quantum information scientists.

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following skills and expertise:

  • Proficiency in development of software applications for cryptographic tasks (preferably with 2+ years of industry experience)

  • Expertise in security/cryptographic aspects of classical communication networks

  • Knowledge of PQC protocols

  • At least BSc Degree in Computer Science (MSc/PhD levels preferred)

  • Proven experience with Git (for instance via GitHub, CodeCommit, Bitbucket)

  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Willingness to be part of an interdisciplinary team

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple milestones and projects efficiently

Quantum Network Engineer (open)

The software engineer will work on software-defined-network (SDN) tools and associated software for quantum networks and distributed quantum computing.

 

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following skills and expertise:

  • Proficiency in SDN tools

  • Publication record in the field of quantum technologies

  • Expertise in security aspects of classical and quantum communication networks

  • Expertise with classical and quantum network simulators

  • PhD experience in Computer Science or Computer and Control Engineering

  • Proven experience with Git (for instance via GitHub, CodeCommit, Bitbucket)

  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Willingness to be part of an interdisciplinary team

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple milestones and projects efficiently
